IVA International Service-Learning Expedition - Team Leaders' Course (ISLETLC 04)

  1.  The International Volunteerism Association is a not-for-profit social enterprise established to build up the capacity of organizations and individuals interested in international volunteerism (IV). Funds raised through the courses run will be used to grow IV capacity in Singapore.
  2. We pleased to offer an International Service-Learning Expedition Leaders' Training Course as part of capacity building the community of IV practitioners in Singapore. This course is recognized by the National Youth Council (NYC) as a qualification to lead a YEP team.
  3. Participants in this course need not be leading a YEP team to attend the course. However, if you are on a YEP you will be able to claim the course fees from NYC as part of the YEP Leader Training grant, assuming their projects are approved by NYC.
  4. This course aims to provide people who intend to lead an international service-learning volunteer expedition with the fundamentals for planning, partnership, execution, risk management, learning and reflection.
  5. The course will combine didactic, small group and experiential learning approaches with application of Multiple Intelligence principles and provide an expedition leader/facilitator with the necessary background information and skills to plan and organize a YEP trip. It will also provide some opportunities to practice facilitation skills through activities designed for direct application within the overseas expedition setting. The knowledge, skills and attitudes, where appropriate, are acquired experientially.
  6. The trainers are IV practitioners who have had many years of experiences to share: from peace-time community development, to disaster-relief and community re-building, to long term international CommDev assignment preparation. Their combined experience will give you insight into how to serve in a variety of issues, countries and cultures.
